Your driving rehab specialist also will have a list of resources.
Be sure to get a driving assessment so you'll be confident
of your abilities and well informed about modifying vehicles
before you go out shopping. Your personal prescription for
modifications will be your guide.
The Association for Driver Rehabilitation Specialists (ADED)

The Association for Driver Rehabilitation Specialists, a non-profit
organization, is the primary professional association in the
field of driver education, driver training, and transportation
equipment modifications for persons with disabilities through
education and information dissemination. ADED, a nonprofit
association is the primary professional organization in this
specialized area.

Chrysler will reimburse
customers up to $1000 on a Dodge Ram van, and up to $750 on
all other Chrysler vehicles when they install adaptive equipment
to a new or leased vehicle within six months of delivery.
Chrysler also provides a helpful information package when
you call them.

Ford and associated manufacturers offer up to $1000 reimbursement
on a newly purchased or leased 1997 or 1998 Ford or Lincoln-Mercury
vehicle, when adaptive equipment is installed. (Leased cars
require lessor's permission to install adaptive equipment.)
Request an information packet on the reimbursement program,
list of dealers in your state, and informational videotape.
General Motors Mobility Program

GM and associated manufacturers offer up to $1000 reimbursement
to new and unused (never titled) GM cars, vans and trucks
manufactured by Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Buick, Cadillac
and GMC. Eligible vehicles must be purchased through an authorized
GM dealer in the United States who is franchised to sell that
vehicle.

The vehicle must be adapted with eligible adaptive equipment
within six months of purchase/lease and the reimbursement
application submitted within 90 days of installation.
Vehicles and Equipment
Not Eligible for Reimbursement:
- Vehicles obtained by GM dealers through
auction (i.e., program vehicles, company cars, etc.)
- Regular production options available
from the factory and dealer-installed GM Accessories
- Communications equipment (e.g., siren
detectors) and comfort-enhancing devices (e.g., lumbar support)

Financing and Leasing Through GMAC
With GMAC, qualified customers can finance the cost of the
vehicle and aftermarket adaptive equipment at the time of
purchase. The service is available at your GM dealership.
SmartLease by GMAC allows you to lease the vehicle and finance
the purchase of your adaptive equipment. All devices must
be removed from the vehicle at the end of the lease without
affecting the original condition of the vehicle. You must
obtain written permission from your GMAC branch to adapt any
lease vehicle. At times, GMAC may offer extended terms on
conversion vans and lowered-floor minivans. Contact your GM
dealer for details.

Visionvan conversions

The Vision modification is a rear-entry modification
with lowered floor. The floor is lowered approximately 8 inches,
and combined with vehicle kneeling, results in an entrance
height from the ground of only six inches. The Vision
modification can be installed on all Daimler-Chrysler,
Ford, and General Motors minivan chassis.
