A train is a popular transportation
option because you can find breathtaking views from the tracks.
For accessibility and other information, visit the Amtrak Web
site at: http://www.amtrak.com
or the Via Rail Web site at http://www.viarail.ca
for train travel in the United States and Canada. If you are planning
a trip to Europe, take a look at Eurail and Britrail accessibility
information: http://www.railpass.com/dtravel.htm.
Greyhound Bus Lines, the only national
bus service in the United States, is equipping many more buses with
lifts. Given 48-hour notice, Greyhound also will send out a lift-equipped
bus and deliver it to any depot. Over-the-road, long distance bus companies are required by the U.S. Dept. of Transportation (DOT) to provide completely accessible buses as of October, 2000. For services, call the Greyhound
ADA Hotline at (800) 752-4841 or (800) 345-3109 (TDD), or visit:
www.greyhound.com
Many people consider cruises to be
the ideal vacation, because you can see a variety of cities without
changing hotels. Cruise ship accessibility varies from ship to ship,
but generally the newer ships are the most accessible. Check out
this great online guide to cruise ship accessibility: http://cruises.about.com/disabledcruisers/index.htm?rnk=r1&terms=Disabled+Cruisers.
Remember to book early, as the accessible cabins go fast!
